Sustain-Able By Design

"Sustainability" remains a strong buzzword in the design industry, but what does it truly mean for professional creativity? How are companies and organizations maintaining environmentally-friendly strategy and production policies that square with the sustainable philosophy?

Get answers to these questions and more on April 12 from a leading sustainability-oriented printer, and then from a local panel of widely-respected experts, moderated by AIGA SB Sustainability Director David Cowan. The panel will focus on:

• Environmentally friendly specification, sourcing and printing techniques
• Sustainable creative strategy and design
• Social and environmental responsibility, philosophy and practices
• Designing for good: socially and environmentally focused organizations
• The AIGA Living Principles for Design and Design for Good

Ahead of the tour and panel, enjoy tasty nibbles, libations, and conversation!

Panelists:

Paul Hendricks
Environmental Responsibility Manager, Patagonia

Paul Hendricks is passionate about inspiring others to develop a love of nature and do what they can to protect it—whether it be taking people out climbing for the first time to gain a sense of awe for mountain landscapes or working with other businesses to brainstorm how Patagonia can radically change the way it does business. Paul's background in social work, international relations, and environmental policy led to a position with the University of Chicago sustainability office, then an international environmental organization in Boulder, and finally to Patagonia's environmental grants team in 2013. His current role focuses on reducing the impacts of Patagonia’s own footprint.
