Food Photography By Design

Join AIGA Santa Barbara and Brooks Institute at DuPuis Ventura for an engaging exhibition and discussion of the evolving world of food photography and its role in graphic design.

Speakers from DuPuis’ Flashlight Studios and Brooks Institute will illuminate the different perspectives of the industry.

The reception, where attendees may explore the exhibits and enjoy refreshments, will be followed by a step-by-step walkthrough of DuPuis’ Flashlight Studios’ proprietary design methodology, Brand Canvas™. The evening will also consist of an exhibition of selected works by Flashlight Studios and Brooks Institute Graduate Student, Hugo Martinez.

About Brand Canvas:
Traditionally, food presentation is resolved during the last stage of the design process: final photography. However, most final photography is not immersive, curious or investigative, all crucial pieces to the finality of brand design. Brand Canvas™ shifts this paradigm. It is a dynamic and immersive collaboration of creative juices including design, photography and culinary arts, and it’s DuPuis’ answer to dreaming up a new course of brand possibilities. About Hugo Martinez:
Hugo Martinez was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico in 1984. He received his BS in Cognitive Science, with a specialization in Neuroscience, in 2007 from the University of California, San Diego. Martinez currently works at Gallery 27 while attending Brooks Institute for his Master of Fine Arts in Photography. Being raised in a traditional Mexican household Martinez was drawn to cooking, while watching his mother create dishes that would transport your soul and mind. Learning from these interactions and tasteful dishes, Martinez integrates this idea of ‘food for thought’ into his images in order to draw up memories that make your mind wander and your mouth salivate.
