Design is…
…many things to many people. It's a creative discipline and a strategic tool, a craft and an industry, a product and a cultural force. It's independent and collaborative, personal and social, flat and multi-dimensional, good and bad, perceptual and physical, emotive and instructional, open to interpretation and communicative, serious and amusing – the understandings and juxtapositions are endless.
To celebrate the Centennial year of AIGA, the professional association for design, AIGA Santa Barbara invites you to share your insights – original and sourced – beginning with Design is… by using the hashtags #DesignIs and #AIGASB on Facebook, Twitter and other social media or and/or email your entry to marketing@santabarbara.aiga.org. These will be collated and published in a document (and possibly print edition) with a view to deepening our understanding of this nebulous term.
